In the corner of the studio is a window that opens to a small roof terrace. I began drawing from observation and then painting here. Through color and paint, this area became a contemplative space with intertwined inside and outside, sunlight and shadow, plant and human.
Varied techniques of applying paint coexist in these paintings. In some areas, color references a thing observed; elsewhere it departs boldly. The paintings contain a diversity of mingling strategies. For me, this varibaility is a natural approach to grappling with mind and perception.
