In the corner of the studio is a window that opens to a small roof terrace. I began drawing from observation and then painting here. Through color and paint, this area became a contemplative garden with intertwined inside and outside, sunlight and shadow, plant and human.
Varied ways of doing paint– wash, stroke, shape, form– and palettes of harmony or contrast coexist in these paintings. I became interested in juxtaposing the languages of the materials with their differing time signatures to produce an interplay of visual rhythms.
