Portable ObjectsSculptural objects made with odds and ends & building materials. I thought about the traditional arts of Central Asia, many of which were portable. In the outdoor markets one sees how goods are packed and loaded up, often heaved on a laborer’s back. I used this title as a question, since there was only an anti-logic to my working with concrete, plaster and pigments.
Finger Drawings & Paintings
A series of 2-d works emphasizing touch/hand/tracing/the tactile/the haptic.
Watercolor and crayon on product packaging. I spontaneously started drawing on packaging, eventually creating free standing objects. It was a way to communicate.

Shape elements in these paintings were inspired by Ottoman and Mevlana architecture and ornamentation which often featured an undulating furl that I found fanciful *although in context, it was not so fanciful. Also, I was scavenging fabric set to the curb in Osmanbey, the textile district of Istanbul. These were often scraps from pattern cutting; their shapes alluded to clothing in an architectural sense, and the body in negative. Often these were decorative dress fabrics. Some I used in collage drawings.
